Think Outside the Box: Painting the Trim a Color Other Than White
March 11, 2022
You are a unique, open-minded person. You aren’t afraid to try something new or different, as long as it works well. You aren’t afraid to show your personality in clever, stylish ways. When it comes to your home’s interior paint, you don’t follow every passing trend—you want to go your own way, and that’s okay!
Would you like to do something unexpected but successful in your house? You could paint the crown molding, baseboards , and window trim a color other than white.
Why You Should Paint the Trim a Different Color
Painting the trim a non-white color isn’t for everyone, but when done in the right way, it can really bring out the charm of the room. Features that may have been otherwise overlooked can become more prominent and attract the right kind of attention to the tiny details that make the room unique. Instead of seeing a uniform solid color, you can notice the details in your trim and add just a little bit of personality to the room.
Although most homeowners choose to paint the walls a different color and the trim white, you can also consider the opposite—painting the wall white (or another neutral color) and the trim a different color—in order to achieve a similar effect.
Other Neutrals to Consider
Maybe you don’t want to go too crazy with this design idea. Maybe you just want to be more subtle and choose a neutral color for the trim. White isn’t the only color that goes with pretty much everything. Other neutrals, including light gray, dark gray, or even black, can be put on baseboards, crown molding, and window trim to create a classy, chic look.
Being Bold with the Trim
If painting the trim another neutral color besides white still isn’t bold enough for you, you can branch out beyond these colors. A well-chosen shade can add strong personality and flair, and fortunately, white allows any color of trim to stand out and still gives the space a clean look. In fact, this white-wall-colored-trim design can make your walls and the trim much more interesting to look at. Or, you can pair yellow trim with white, green, or blue walls. A rich, deep brown stands out against a beige, yellow, purple, or olive green wall color.
Taking the Plunge
With so many possibilities, it can be difficult to decide and feel confident in your decision. A color consultant can help you narrow down your options and find the one that will allow you to express your style in a way that makes sense for the space.
While painting the trim may not be for everyone, it is something you should at least consider to make the home your own. Take advantage of the room’s features and accentuate them, giving you the perfect outlet for your creativity and uniqueness.
